ISIS PAINTER

Isis has graphically expressed herself in a very personal style since childhood, distanced from all artistic learning.
When she arrived in France from her native country, she rapidly had to integrate into memorable but unfavourable conditions. Having picked up the language in hurried and dramatic circumstances, her initial vocation drove her towards a literary career where she taught literature in state schools; her passion being for the analysis of text, words and concepts, as well as for their relationship to each other.
Nevertheless, the command of words, even that of the literary masters, seemed limited to her and she felt a need to convey in images everything which words didn’t speak, everything which seemed forbidden to speak.

One day, when in a craft workshop for keeping people occupied who, like her, had found themselves imprisoned in hospital for some time whilst recovering from serious surgery, she found a medium with which she was unfamiliar : felt pen and Bristol board.
The composition of her first drawings in felt pen reflects how she perceived these to be better suited to the scribbling of children. However, she developed her technique by following some very distinctive methods having quickly discovered previously unexplored potential in her artworks.

Very few artists use felt pens to express themselves. Her work is conceived by principles which came to be at the same time as her personal development.
The world she illustrates is a "wild" world (that of images), preceding culture (the world of words). In this lies her originality and her uniqueness.
